These are 9 bizarre facts about mobile phones that only a few people know...

Yes...

Not long ago, smartphones were not part of our lives.

And frankly...

The world went on without them, and two decades ago, few people could have imagined mobile phones with all the features we know today.

But you probably agree that life today would be very chaotic without smartphones.

With them, we replace calculators, maps, letters, banking, cameras, alarm clocks, dictionaries, calendars and many other applications that we use....

We use on daily basis…

Before we move on to the 9 interesting facts, let me introduce myself first.

My name is Uroš and I am the co-owner of the Kron technical service, where we have repaired more than 75,586 devices in the 30 years of operation.

And no - I am not telling you this to brag, I just want to tell you something else...

Since I have already dealt with thousands of phones, since their inception, I have also learned more about their history.

So. Now that we have that under control, let's start with the first interesting thing about mobile phones...

#1: The happiest caller...

Did you know that the first mobile phone call was made on April 3, 1973? It was made by Martin Cooper, who was a Motorola engineer at the time.

And what's most interesting here is that Martin used his first call to call his own competitor.

Even more interesting is that competitor Joel Engel of AT&T was preparing for a press conference at the time.

Mr. Cooper's first words were reportedly: "Do you know where I'm calling you from?"

And if we go to the second point...

#2: More and more...

Statistics say that there are already more phones in the world than people.

According to rough estimates, about 5 billion people use phones. However, when they calculated the averages in the more developed Western world and other countries, they came to the conclusion that each user has an average of 1.5 phones.

And although no one has exact data, one calculated average shows that there are 7.5 billion phones in the world.

#3: WC...

When it comes to smartphones and hygiene, there have been a lot of studies done in the past.

What's worrying is that most of these studies are fairly consistent.

A mobile phone screen can have up to 20 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.

A good reason to leave your phone alone while eating, right?

#4: Finns, Finns...

Did you know that there's actually a sport where people throw phones?

Yes...

This competition in Finland has been organized every year since 2000.

*And now maybe we can understand more easily that there are more phones in the world than people : )

Currently, the world record holder in this bizarre sport is Finn Riku Haverinen, who threw a phone 97.73 meters in 2013.

The women's record is currently held by Swede Åsa Lundgren, who threw a phone 40.41 meters.

The next point may not even be so surprising...

#5: You buy, you buy...

Do you remember the phone, the Nokia 1100, that at least one person in society had?

In fact, it is the best-selling phone of all time, with 250 million units sold.

You may be wondering how that is even possible?

Yes - the fact is that the competition was not that great back then.

In addition, this model is also one of the most durable models ever made.

#6: Disease...

Like anything, mobile phones can have a very positive or negative impact on the development of society. One of the most negative effects is certainly nomophobia, which is the fear of mobile unavailability.

This means that people are afraid of losing their phone, having a dead battery, or not being able to answer when someone needs them.

The data on how many people have it varies widely...

The most commonly cited figures are between 50 and 65% of all phone users.

#7: The Nordic King...

What is the connection between the Nordic king and smartphones?

The connection is actually quite fascinating...

One of the most famous wireless technologies is named after the Nordic king Harald Blatand - Bluetooth.

Blatand was mistranslated into English as Bluetooth.

The fact that this technology was named after him is probably due to his negotiating and rhetorical skills.

#8: Average...

In 2021, mobile phones already play such a role in our lives that we rarely let them out of our sight.

This is also confirmed by numerous studies. They found that the average phone user looks at the screen every 6 minutes, which is about 150 times a day.

#9: Millions

I've saved the best interesting thing for last.

Price.

When it comes to price, the numbers don't stop quickly for almost anything.

The most expensive phone model is the Falcon Supernova Pink Diamond Iphone 6, which has a case made of 18-carat gold and a large pink diamond on the back.

This one alone costs 95.5 million dollars, which is a good 70 million euros.

Not exactly cheap, right? : )

So...

We've come to the end of these interesting things about mobile phones.
