(and what can you do about it...)

“God forbid the TV would die...”

… is a cute Slovenian hit, which our Adi Smolar sang happily back in 1995…

And regardless of the fact that around 25 years have passed since then, many people still don’t want to experience such a black scenario today : )

After all, watching TV represents relaxation and a quick break from the hectic everyday life for people…

You probably wouldn’t be too happy if your TV set simply failed in the middle of the evening news or during the most tense moment of a movie…

The worst part is that failures shamelessly appear even in brand new devices, where you wouldn’t expect them for at least a few years…

And if your TV has also suddenly developed a problem or failure, then it’s a good thing we met here…

Hey!

My name is Uroš and I am the co-owner of the renowned Kron technical service, where we have managed to repair more than 75,591 devices in three decades of operation.

And no - I am not telling you this to brag, but I want you to be aware of something else...

In my long career, I have dealt with several hundred broken TVs a year, so I can tell you from experience what might actually be happening to your TV.

So...

Now that we have that out of the way, let's get to the first headache that a lot of people face...

Header #1: Somewhere, far beyond the rainbow...

If you are currently struggling with this dilemma, then you know very well which “rainbow” I am talking about...

These horizontal and vertical lines on the TV screen mostly appear due to weak power in the receiver cable connected to your TV...

An even more common reason for this is a “loose” wire cable inside the TV itself.

You can easily discover the cause of the problem by lightly tapping on different areas on the back of the TV...

If the vertical lines decrease or even disappear, then this is a sign that the cable is not properly attached...

Unfortunately, tapping is a temporary, not a permanent solution...

If you want to fix this problem, you need to find out which cable bundle is loose, broken, or damaged. Therefore, it is best to seek help from a professional in this case.

However, it can happen that a visit to a repairman is also necessary in the following case...

Header #2: Silent Film…

Back when Charlie Chaplin was on TV, no one even noticed that the sound clips were missing.

In the 21st century, sound is one of the indispensable components in most movies, series, and other video content.

That's why it's even more annoying when it suddenly "disappears".

If you want to find out what might be the cause of your silent TV, all you need is a pair of external speakers...

First, of course, unplug all the cables from the power and the TV, wait a minute, and plug everything back in properly.

Once you've completed the basic "unplug and plug" technique, connect external speakers to the TV.

If you suddenly hear sound, then the internal speakers are most likely "off".

If there's still no sound even with the speakers, then the audio chip has most likely failed.

And if that's the case, you can leave the matter to a professional without any bad conscience, because replacing the audio chip is a completely simple and quick procedure.

The situation is exactly the opposite with the third common headache...

Header #3: When TV turns into radio...

That's right - I'm talking about that annoying moment when the picture suddenly disappears while the sound is still playing in the background.

Not only does it “annoy” us, but on top of that, the whole situation is a bit confusing.

But let me warn you first!

This kind of error often occurs with different brands of TVs (Samsung, Philips, LG and many others), so it makes no sense to point the finger at the manufacturer.

It also doesn’t matter whether your TV is this year’s model or an “old timer”, as this can happen with any TV.

There are many reasons for the lack of an image on the screen, and it is unlikely that you will be able to detect it with the naked eye…

In such cases, you will most likely need to contact a competent repairman, as he will easily determine the nature of the problem and find a suitable solution.

The TV malfunction that occurs most often is the following...

Header #4: Who turned off the lights?

The problem that our customers also encounter most often is a non-working screen…

That motionless, sad blackness that does not turn into a picture no matter what you try.

And usually the problem lies precisely in the TV's power supply unit…

This is responsible for receiving and sending current to all its components.

When the power supply unit suddenly receives a sudden surge of electrical energy, problems begin to arise, as the capacitors* soon fail…

*A capacitor is a device for storing electrical charge. In layman's terms - it is like a "spark plug" in the TV that stores electricity and then transmits it further.

Is the capacitor really to blame?

If you want to find out if the capacitor is really to blame for the screen failure, then there is a fairly simple way to find out.

With the right manual skills, you can disassemble the TV and find the problem.

If you notice that the capacitor is leaking or bulging, then the rabbit is probably hiding in this bush.

And don't worry, because this is not unusual...

These problems are actually quite common with modern LCD TVs, and the repair is quick and mostly without complications.

However, TVs can sometimes be quite capricious, which brings us to the last point on the list...

Header #5: Little gray cells…

Look…

It is true that the above-described are the most common malfunctions encountered by TV owners…

But unfortunately, this does not mean that other malfunctions are that much rarer.

There are so many components and wires inside every TV that practically a lot of things can go wrong.

And if the problem you are currently dealing with is not on this list, or you do not feel like playing Master Miho at home, you may be wondering the following…

Is it even worth repairing my TV?

To be completely honest with you, in some cases it is probably better to buy a new TV…

If the problem is not critical, you can throw away even more money by buying a new device, so to speak.

Besides, you probably don't feel like buying "blindly" online in the current situation.

But look…

The fact is that for a minimal repair of a TV, at best you have to pay 20 EUR, and at worst you can pay more than the cost of a new device.

But from this distance it is a bit difficult for me to guess what kind of defect it is, since I don't have your TV in front of me.

And the only way I can tell you the exact price is to see the TV and check what kind of defect it is...
